Methodology

This page exists so you can check the numbers rather than trust them. It describes the one source this site reads, what it stores, and — just as important — what it does not collect.

The source

One source, read directly: the Reserve Bank of Australia's cash rate statistics page. From it this site stores the current cash rate target, its effective date, and the series of board decisions — 40 of them at present, each with its date, level and change.

Every figure carries the moment it was retrieved. The set on this site was last read at 17 August 2026 at 4:01 am (Sydney time). If that timestamp is old, treat the figures as old — the page will not quietly refresh itself behind the date it shows you.

How often it is re-read

The RBA publishes a decision after each scheduled board meeting; between meetings the target does not move. This site is re-read against the source around those decisions rather than on a fixed clock, and the retrieval timestamp — not a promised schedule — is what tells you how current the page is.

What this site does not collect

It does not hold lender-by-lender rate tables, comparison rates, product fees, or lender product disclosure statements. It does not track what any individual bank is charging this week, and it does not rank lenders.

That is a deliberate limit rather than a gap waiting to be filled. Lender pricing changes constantly, differs between new and existing customers, and goes stale without announcing it. A table this site could not keep honest would be worse than no table.

The tools, and what they assume

The fixed-versus-variable tool is arithmetic on figures you type in. It does not fetch a rate, does not know your lender, and does not predict anything. Its output is an estimate for comparison, not a quote, and not financial advice.

The eight-column explainer describes what a rate table needs before two products can be compared fairly. It describes structure; it does not publish any lender's values.

Corrections

If a figure here disagrees with the RBA, the RBA is right and this site is wrong. Report it to data@cashrate.au and it will be corrected, with the correction noted below.
